It’s good to know what effect technology has on your business.

1. Social Media

75% of security breaches are staged by external actors. When your employees interact through social media, the “external factor” is brought in contact with your business daily, creating a potential point of failure.

2. Artificial Intelligence (AI)

A 2016 study found that the average time to identify a data breach is 191 days. In 2019 the average time to identify a breach  was 206 days, and the average time to contain a breach was 73 days, according to IBM.  The global number of web attacks blocked per day increased by 56.1% between 2017 and 2018 , according to Statista. It is interesting to note that AI can identify suspicious behaviors much faster and get that information where it needs to go.

3. Deep Learning

Deep learning is a subset of machine learning in artificial intelligence (AI) that has networks capable of learning unsupervised from data that is unstructured or unlabeled. Deep learning improves AI’s response to hacking. AI can detect and notify, and deep learning can actually prevent hacks without human input in some cases.

4. Cloud Services

Cloud services have a vested interest in providing the best security possible. That being said, Gartner study found that through 2022 at least 95% of cloud security failures will likely be the customer’s fault.

5. Increased Digitization

Statista notes that in 2018 data center storage capacity was 1,450- exabytes. By 2021, that number will reach 2,300 exabytes. Your systems are a much richer target data-wise than ever before, even as you have more ways to use that data.
